Tip-Edge® Brackets Can Benefit All Edgewise Techniques Through Variable Anchorage Control

چکیده
The Tip-Edge bracket features the first and only archwire slot that offers variable control levels. It’s .022" archwire slot can increase in size to .028" relative to the archwire during retraction yet close back down to .022" to facilitate final finishing. Variable control eliminates the excessive anchorage strain and bite deepening that occurs during retraction with conventional edgewise appliances. This in turn allows for far simpler treatment mechanics and much less reliance on extraoral forces.1 Surprisingly, many orthodontists are unaware of this feature and the manner in which it can simplify all edgewise orthodontic techniques. In his latest text Proffit reiterates that the ideal bracket “would provide a variable size archwire slot.” However, he laments that such a bracket has not yet been developed.2

A comparative in vitro study of the frictional characteristics of two types of self-ligating brackets and two types of pre-adjusted edgewise brackets tied with elastomeric ligatures.
The aim of this in vitro study was to investigate the frictional characteristics of two types of self-ligating brackets ('A' Company Damon SL and Adenta Time brackets) and two types of pre-adjusted edgewise brackets (TP Tip-Edge and 'A' Company Standard Twin brackets). The test brackets were glued to steel bars and aligned using a preformed jig. Five combinations of archwire size and material w...

Introduction: The aim of this study was to assess the galvanic behavior of different bracket and archwire combinations that are commonly used in orthodontic treatments. Methods: Three types of orthodontic archwires with a diameter of 0.016×0.022 inch and 80 standard edgewise maxillary central incisor brackets were selected. Three groups consisted of different wire-bracket couples and one group ...
متن کاملThe effect of ZnO nanoparticle coating on the frictional resistance between orthodontic wires and ceramic brackets
Background. Any decrease in friction between orthodontic wire and bracket can accelerate tooth movement in the sliding technique and result in better control of anchorage. This study was carried out to evaluate frictional forces by coating orthodontic wires and porcelain brackets with zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO). Methods . In this in vitro study, we evaluated a combination of 120 samples of ...
متن کاملThe tip-edge concept: eliminating unnecessary anchorage strain.
The difficulty of managing this reverse anchorage potential has led to an increase in the use of extraoral forces, functional appliances, and even orthognathic surgery to correct malocclusions with relatively slight sagittal discrepancies. In his last published article, Angle advocated angulated bracket placement that would tip the crowns of the maxillary teeth distally to correct a Class II, d...

Continuing with round wires can simplify treatment for the operator—no need for more archwires. In other cases the use of r e c t a n g u l a r archwires can provide automatic t...
